Caramelized French Onion Dip

Caramelized French Onion Dip made with Greek yogurt for a boost of protein (gluten free + high protein). Packed with sweet, caramelized onions, this dip is the ultimate crowd-pleaser for any fall gathering. Pair it with your favorite chips or veggies for the perfect snack!

Yield: 8-10 servings

Prep time: 30 minutes

Total time: 50 minutes

Ingredients

1 large onion, chopped

2 c Greek yogurt

1/3 c red wine or broth

1 tbsp coconut aminos

1/2 tsp paprika

1/4 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp oregano

1/2 tsp thyme

1 tbsp mayo (I use Chosen Foods avocado mayo)

Chives, for garnish

1 tbsp earth balance (or butter)

Instructions:

  1. Garnish with chopped chives before serving. Enjoy with your favorite chips or veggies!
  2. In a large skillet, melt the Earth Balance over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized. Reduce heat if they begin to burn.
  4. Pour in the red wine or broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it simmer for a few minutes until the liquid reduces slightly.
  5. In a bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, coconut aminos, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme, and mayonnaise. Stir until well combined.
  6. Once the onions have cooled slightly, fold them into the yogurt mixture until evenly distributed.
  7. Cover the dip and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
